A PUB BELOW THE STREET
Today, Durty Nelly's sits underground.
Originally, it didn't.
Like much of historic Deadwood, this part of the building once stood at street level. After devastating floods reshaped the town, the streets were raised, leaving what was once the main floor beneath today's sidewalks.
Look around and you'll notice something unusual, windows in the basement.
They aren't there by accident. They once looked directly onto the streets of Deadwood, offering a fascinating glimpse into how dramatically the town has changed over the last century.
